Republican Senators from oil producing states are pressing President Donald Trump to tell Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue to not get involved in influencing how the EPA approves small refinery waivers from the Renewable Fuel Standard. Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Geoff Cooper says however the Secretary is only doing what the law dictates.

He says the Ag Secretary acting correctly when he weighs in on any RFS issue including the small refinery waivers.

The Senators directed their letter complaining about the Ag Secretary’s actions to the President who called for that in the first place.

The Senators led by John Barasso of Wyoming, Chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee claim under the Clean Air Act, the EPA Administrator should consult with the Energy Secretary on which refiners receive an RFS waiver. They say the law does not give the Ag Secretary any authority or role in the petitions.
