The Environmental Protection Agency will conduct a long delayed study to assess the impact ethanol blended fuels have on air quality. The agency was pushed by a lawsuit filed by the Sierra Club which is a well known critic of the Renewable Fuel Standard. Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Geoff Cooper says he expects the study to show ethanol continues to be beneficial for the environment.
He says if the study is done properly and follows sound science it will show how off base the Sierra Club’s arguments against the fuel are.
The Sierra Club charges that the RFS has unintended and devastating consequences for wildlife and wildlife habitat. Cooper says that’s not only untrue, it doesn’t make sense.
The EPA and the Sierra Club recently reached a partial agreement where the agency has to get the study completed by March of next year.
