The Oregon Environmental Commission has decided to exclude indirect emissions when calculating the carbon intensity of fuels regulated under its Clean Fuels Program. RFA Senior Vice President Geoff Cooper is pleased Oregon officials decided the low carbon fuel standard used by California which is based on indirect land use won’t be used in their state.Cooper says California is the only state in the nation that uses a fuel standard based on the flawed indirect land use model.
Cooper says if indirect land use or California’s LCFS is tried at the national level his group will argue against it and believes they have to data available to prove its fallacy.
The indirect land use model claims that clearing land for crop production increases greenhouse gases. Cooper says there’s no evidence to prove that theory.
