Illinois Congresswoman Cheri Bustos has introduced the Next Generation Fuels Act of 2020. The measure is intended to remove regulatory barriers to higher blends of ethanol and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in fuel. Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Geoff Cooper says his group backs the bill and says it could create great opportunities for ethanol moving forward.
He says besides providing more low carbon fuel opportunities the bill has many more positives including an extension of the Reid Vapor Pressure waiver to all ethanol blends.
Cooper says as this Congress is winding down, he not only expects Busto’s bill to be reintroduced in the House but also a companion measure to come up in the Senate.
Cooper says the legislation includes a new clean octane standard which limits aromatic compounds in gasoline and requires octane to be produced from clean sources.
