President Donald Trump plans to meet with China’s Premier April 6 and 7 in Florida. Renewable Fuel Association Senior Vice President Geoff Cooper is hoping the President uses the opportunity to start clearing up the trade issues negatively impacting United States DDG and ethanol trade to China.
He’s also hoping that having Iowa Governor Terry Branstad, who’s been a champion of renewable fuels, as ambassador to China will also help.
Cooper says Branstad not only understands renewable fuels, but how agriculture and the economies work in China and the U.S.
China had been the strongest market for U.S. DDG exports in 2015. However, they initiated an anti-dumping investigation that resulted in tariffs and duties on DDGs that shut off exports to China.
