Colombian officials have announced they will impose duties on U.S. ethanol exports into their country. U.S. officials say the duties are unjustified and follow the wishes of ethanol groups in Colombia. Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Geoff Cooper says the study done by the Colombians didn’t find any dumping occurring so them imposing duties is concerning.
He says Colombia had been one of the better customers for U.S. ethanol so to face this trade barrier is very disappointing.
Cooper says not only do the duties injure U.S. ethanol producers, it also hurts Colombia’s consumers.
The Renewable Fuels Association along with the U.S. Grains Council and Growth Energy said the Colombian Ministry’s decision to impose the duties was not supported by evidence.
