An amendment has been introduced to the Keystone XL Pipeline Bill in the Senate to eliminate corn ethanol from the Renewable Fuel Standard. Renewable Fuel Association’s Senior Vice President Geoff Cooper says the measure was put in by Senators Dianne Feinstein of California and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania who say it would eliminate the corn ethanol mandate. Cooper says there are several problems with that.
Cooper says the amendment puts Farm State Senators in a tough position.
Cooper says the amendment is based on flawed logic, the food versus fuel argument.
Cooper notes that the United Nations has already concluded that food prices are driven more by the price of energy than the cost of commodities. He says if the amendment were to pass it would drive U.S. energy policy back for decades.
