An analysis released by the Renewable Fuels Association this week shows more than 80 percent of new 2017 model year vehicles are approved by manufacturers to use 15 percent ethanol blends. RFA Senior Vice President Geoff Cooper says when doing the analysis they looked at owner manuals and warranty statements that showed more than 80 percent approved compared to 70 percent from last year’s 2016 models.
He says what’s probably more notable is that around 90 percent of the automobiles on the road can now use E 15 according to the Environmental Protection Agency which originally gave the fuel the go ahead in 2011-2012.
Cooper says the number of stations offering E 15 has been and continues to grow and the recent decision by the EPA to raise the RFS volume levels for 2017 will help add to that.
Cooper says what’s also helpful for more E 15 use is the 22 million automobiles on the road today that are flex fuel vehicles.
