Restoring Civility in Iowa Politics

Restoring Civility in Iowa Politics

Politics can be nasty and a forum is planned next month in central Iowa that aims to empower Iowa voters to demand more civility from politicians. With Iowa’s Caucuses now six week away, some feel there’s a loss of diplomacy when it comes to political discussions. Amy Smit, spokeswoman for the Robert D. and Billie Ray Center at Drake University, says it’s important to be respectful, especially during this election season.

The panel discussion is scheduled for the evening of January 13th in Des Moines.
*
Smit is hopeful something can be accomplished in this 90-minute discussion as voters work to change the culture and turn it away from the personal attacks and smear campaigns we’re seeing from some candidates.

The panel will include the founder of Character Counts, political strategists, journalists and experts from Drake University.
