The Hutchinson Minnesota City Council has passed a resolution prohibiting the tapping of Maple trees for syrup on publicly owned land. Public Works Manager John Olson says there are two issues behind the resolution. One issue is determining public vs private trees, especially on boulevards…

The other issue is the damage inflicted on maple trees on publicly owned land and the responsibility of those causing the damage. Olson says if anyone has a question of whether or not a tree is on public or private land, they should contact the city’s Public Works Department.
