A resolution is moving though the South Dakota legislature that would direct the Executive Board to create a task force to study alternatives to prison for those convicted of drug ingestion.
Resolution sponsor, Senator Craig Kennedy of Yankton, says the state is one of very few that considers taking drugs a felony….
Kennedy says he got the idea for the study after talking to the head of the Department of Corrections…
Kennedy says the state needs to find a better, cheaper alternative…
The resolution passed through the Senate Judiciary committee, but hasn’t been set for a floor hearing yet.
