Researchers are working to learn more about a little known corn disease that has shown up in nine states including South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa. It’s known as Ag Bacterial Leaf Streak Blight which originated in South Africa. SDSU Extension Plant Pathologist Larry Osbourne says he thinks it’s actually been around for some time.
He says the disease shouldn’t have any real negative effect on yield.
Osbourne says because it’s a bacterial disease it’s difficult to deal with.
The ag bacterial leaf streak blight has surfaced in field corn, seed corn, popcorn and sweet corn. Other states effected are Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
