The chances of republicans gaining control of the US Senate in the November elections is getting slimmer. Several political websites are now rating GOP chances as a little better than fifty fifty.
South Dakota Senator John Thune says Senate control depends on tight races in a number of states.
Despite not being on the ballot, Thune has a stake in potential republican control of the Senate.
Thune says no matter what happens on election day, Senators will return to Washington after the election for a lame duck session of Congress.
Members of Congress passed a short term federal funding bill that expires in early December.
