Representatives Are Calling For Sound Science in Dietary Guidelines Report

Seventy U.S House members are urging the US Department of Agriculture and Health and Human Services to make sure the final American Dietary Guidelines report is based on sound nutritional science and to stay within the bounds of the charter authorized by Congress. South Dakota Cattlemen Association President Todd Wilkinson is pleased with the support from the House members.  He says the dietary committee should not try to address sustainability, which doesn’t belong in the report.

Wilkinson says it’s apparent dietary committee members were following an agenda when they outlined their recommendations and that needs to be addressed by Congress, USDA and HHS.

House members are asking Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack and HHS Secretary Slyvia Burwell to base their final guidelines on sound science and not reflect the predetermined policy positions of the individual committee members.
