Nebraska Lawmakers have advanced a bill which would repeal the Black-Tailed Prairie Dog Management Act approved in 2012.
Senator Ernie Chambers of Omaha sponsored the bill, stating the law has several constitutional flaws
Chambers contends the bill violates private property rights, because it allows a county to authorize an agent to go onto property to eradicate prairie dogs, whether allowed by the property owner or not.
The bill has never been enforced, and Senator Dan Hughes of Vernango sees that as a plus.
Still, lawmakers have advanced the bill. It needs to clear two more votes before it goes to the governor.
