The Renewable Fuels Association is involved with a pair of lawsuits to get the Environmental Protection Agency to get the Renewable Fuel Standard back on track. RFA Executive Vice President Geoff Cooper says they’re challenging the EPA’s abuse in issuing small refiner waivers from the RFS.

He says there was severe biofuel demand loss that occurred as a result of the large number of RFS waivers that were granted.

Cooper says the surplus of RINS has led to cheaper costs for refiners who then don’t blend as much ethanol as they could and should. He says they’re expecting court action to get moving in the next few months on their cases.

Cooper says they’re also involved in a broader lawsuit challenging the EPA in its implementation of the 2018 Renewable Fuel Standard volumes.
