An Office of Inspector General’s report is taking the EPA to task for failing to provide legally required reports to Congress. Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw says the reports sought initially by anti biofuel backers turned out more positive for the renewable fuels industry.
According to the O-I-G the EPA hasn’t provided any of the needed reports for five years since they did their first one in 2011. Shaw says the agency has had a difficult time getting much of their required work done including volume levels for the Renewable Fuels Standard.
Shaw says his group’s main concern is that the EPA make sure they get the RFS volumes back up to the statutory levels when they release those in November.
According to the O-I-G, the EPA is behind in complying with a triennial report to Congress on the environmental and conservation impacts of the RFS, an anti back sliding report on the impacts of the RFS on air quality and a determination on whether any mitigation measures are necessary.
