The Renewable Fuel Integrity Act of 2019 has been introduced in the U.S. Senate. The companion measure to a House bill addresses the timing and transparency issues associated with small refinery exemptions under the RFS. Nebraska Ethanol Board Administrator Roger Berry says it’s important Congress pass those bills due to the demand destruction the ethanol industry’s experienced.
He says under the legislation those requesting RFS exemptions have to make those known before the Renewable Volume Obligation numbers are released.
Berry says the chances of the legislation being approved is very good since there are companion measures being considered in the House and Senate as well as bipartisan support.
Senate sponsors include Nebraska’s Deb Fischer and Tammy Duckworth of Illinois. House sponsors are Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson of Minnesota and Representative Dusty Johnson of South Dakota.
