Release of Information Spurs a Federal Lawsuit

The National Pork Producers Council and American Farm Bureau have filed a federal court brief asking for a reversal of a district court decision. The decision in question dismissed a lawsuit against the EPA for releasing private producer information to activist groups. NPPC President Elect, John Weber says they’re hoping to get a better ruling this time around to stop any future release of private information.

Weber says the EPA went beyond its authority and released much more information than was necessary.

Weber says the EPA already has the necessary information of producers they need to issue permits but they don’t need a huge influx of personal information.

The case stems from the EPA’s 2013 release of information from farms in 30 states to the Natural Resources Defense Council, Earth Justice and the Pew Charitable Trusts under the Freedom of Information Act.
