Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton says he’ll let a controversial “reinsurance” bill become law without his signature. Backers say the state spending 542 million dollars for care for the most seriously-ill Minnesotans will help hold down health insurance premiums for everyone else. The governor says he doesn’t like that he received no guarantees from health plans, but vetoing the bill would have negative consequences
Senate Republican Majority Leader Paul Gazelka estimates the state paying for reinsurance will keep health insurance premium increases about 20 percent lower than they would have been.
