World Health Summit attendees in Berlin next week will dine on a meatless Monday Menu. The menu is a sign of endorsing a global Meatless Monday movement by the World Health Organization. South Dakota Beef Industry Council Director of Nutrition and Consumer Information Holly Swee says that’s disappointing as beef is an essential part of a healthy diet.

She says beef is an important component of a healthy balanced diet.

Swee says beef is an excellent source of B 12 which is not naturally found in plant sources. She adds that if you choose a plant based protein to replace an animal based protein your calories will increase by two to three times. Swee says the whole movement by the World Health group flies in the face of proper nutrition.

The World Health Summit runs from October 9 to the 11th.
