The new $6 million swine facility at SDSU came together with unprecedented regional support. Pork and soybean producers from Iowa and Minnesota helped to fund the unit. Minnesota Pork Executive Director Dave Preisler says with the large number of Minnesota students that attend SDSU they are investing in human capital that will advance the pork industry in the future.
Bob Worth with the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association says it just made sense for them to support the future of the livestock industry through the teaching and research facility.
He says the observation area will allow them to educate consumers, legislators and trade teams about U.S. swine management and care.
Construction on the unit will start in the spring with completion early in 2016.
