Reform Coalition Wants COOL Thrown Out

A broad reform coalition of U.S. agricultural and business groups want Congress to take action directing the Ag Secretary to indefinitely suspend the revised Country of Origin Labeling rule. That’s if the World Trade Organization rules in favor of Canada and Mexico in an appeals case against the United States. National Pork Producers Council President Dr. Howard Hill says he’s expecting an unfavorable ruling.
The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association is also part of that coalition along with NPPC and others. NCBA Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says it’s long past time to get rid of COOL.
The official announcement of the WTO decision is not expected to be released until the end of the month.
