An emergency blood shortage is prompting the American Red Cross in Nebraska to put out an urgent call for all eligible donors. Spokesperson Samantha Pollard says about 550 fewer blood drives were organized last week due to the 4th of July holiday, but the need continues to grow.

Pollard says summer vacations and people celebrating the 4th of July resulted in several thousand fewer blood and platelet donations. https://soundcloud.com/wnax-radio/pollard-710b

Pollard says they are especially in need of type O. To schedule an appointment or donate, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800 Red Cross.
