The so called “polar vortex” that swept through the northern plains and the Midwest last week was record setting.
Dennis Todey with the Midwest Climate Hub (in Ames Iowa) says most of the northern plains got a glancing blow from the frigid air..

One observer northwest of Duluth Minnesota recorded a low of fifty six below zero.
Todey says there is more cold air coming from Canada….

Todey says the outlook for February overall looks pretty cold…

Todey says that trend may change again by later in the month to a more normal pattern.
