The number of complaints on dicamba drift damage has risen in Iowa to record levels. Agronomists across the state report 329 pesticide misuse complaints. Iowa State University Extension Weed Specialist Bob Hartzler says 2020 is the worst year for complaints with damage caused by a variety of factors.
He says his recommendation is to lower the volatility of dicamba in order to lessen any possible damage.
Hartzler says most growers have been trying to do the right thing with applying dicamba. He says one thing that needs to be done is evaluating individual fields to see what’s causing the drift and damage problems.
Hartzler says that anything that reduces the volatility of dicamba will make the product safer.
