Recent trade figures indicate U.S. exports of meat, grains, fruits and vegetables to South Korea are up 25-percent this year and projected to increase again next year. Nebraska Cattlemen Association President Troy Stowater says that shows U.S. negotiators need to be cautious how they treat the South Koreans in any renegotiation of KORUS or the Korean Free Trade Agreement.
He says trade agreements like KORUS are very important to the U.S. cattle industry.
Stowater has confidence in U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and says it’s positive that Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue works with him so well.
The Trump administration has been taking a hard-line stance on renegotiating free trade agreements.
