Ratification Of USMCA Top Trade Priority For NCBA Members

National Cattlemen Beef Association members will be wrapping up their convention in New Orleans today and at the top of mind of the producers attending is trade. NCBA Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says leading that concern is the need for the U.S. Congress to ratify the USMCA, the revamped NAFTA.

He says market access that’s contained in the USMCA into Canada and Mexico for the U.S. is over $100 per head of cattle.

Woodall says while USMCA is the top priority, cattle producers also want to see a resolution to the trade war with China as that market provides greater potential than the Japanese market.

Woodall says NCBA members also want to see a bilateral deal reached with Japan as the U.S. is losing market share because of their participation in the CPTPP deal which the U.S. is not a part of.
