Rates for water, wastewater and solid waste in Yankton will be going up later this fall.
The City Commission voted Monday to increase those rates by five percent for each service.

City Finance Officer Al Viereck says there is no other way to pay for those services and needed improvements…

A new water treatment plant is almost done, at a cost of thirty four million dollars and there will be some big costs for repairs at the wastewater plant.
Viereck says some of that will be covered by a federal grant…

Viereck says he is open to any ideas on how to pay for those improvements…

The new rates go into effect in November.
