The Society for Range Management, USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, and SDSU Extension Service hosted a Range Camp for South Dakota youth to learn more about land management.  Dave Ollila, SDSU Sheep Field Specialist, says the kids learned the role of the state’s rangelands…

 

He says all students will benefit from knowing about plant and wildlife identification and the hands-on field education, whether or not they end up working the rangeland in the future…

 

The students competed at the end of the camp in identification and determined the carrying capacity of an area using sheep.
