The South Dakota State Railroad Board may hear from cities that are interested in so called “quiet zones” at rail crossings.

Transportation Department Secretary Joel Jundt told the board during their meeting last week the issue was debated in this year’s legislative session….

Jundt says the bill was eventually killed….

Jundt says the board should see if there is any interest in quiet zones….

Quiet zones use crossing arms and other changes at intersections that allow trains to pass without sounding their horns.
