Piles of corn in the background framed the visit of two US Senators and one hopeful Senator to the Central Farmers’ Cooperative in Marion this morning,
Nebraska Senator, and former US Ag Secretary Mike Johanns, South Dakota Senator John Thune, and Senate candidate Mike Rounds met with co-op officials and producers to talk about rail shipping issues.
Johanns says everyone knows that much of the rail traffic in the region is devoted to moving oil out of North Dakota. He says that makes the need for the Keystone XL pipeline even more critical.
Johanns says despite the political back and forth, the Keystone XL pipeline has bi-partisan support.
Rounds says another solution to the grain glut is to feed more livestock.
Johanns says they remain optimistic the Obama Administration will make a decision on the pipeline sometime after next week’s election.
