The 2014 South Dakota legislature set aside six million dollars for a rail road rehabilitation project. The money would help start rebuilding the rail from Chamberlain west to Presho.

Todd Yeaton of Kimball, Chairman of the State Railroad Board, says that money, along with over a million dollars in the Governor’s budget, will be used as an incentive for a federal “Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery” or TIGER grant. He says they have applied for the grant several times…

Yeaton says the rail board also kicked in about seven million dollars to the project…

Yeaton says they are optimistic they will get the grant sometime this summer…

South Dakota Wheat Growers has said they want to build a large grain handling – fertilizer plant in Presho, based on the rail line reaching there.
