Last week, Surface Transportation Board officials held a rail hearing in Fargo, North Dakota before a packed house. North Dakota Wheat Commission Marketing Director Jim Peterson who was at the hearing says rail shipments for ag commodities has been a major issue and some of the railroads are attempting to respond to a very large problem.
South Dakota Wheat Commission Executive Director Reid Christopherson also attended the meeting. He says several agricultural groups and producers as well as others are being adversely affected by the rail problems.
Christopherson and Peterson both says that elevators in the Dakotas have been filling up and some producers have had to store their crops on their operations.
