South Dakota’s Congressional delegation, along with Governor Dennis Daugaard have been working with the Surface Transportation Board, trying to speed up rail grain shipments out of the state.
BNSF, the state’s major carrier, says they have increased the number of locomotives and crews and are shrinking the backlog of shuttle trains.
Todd Yeaton, Chairman of the State Rail Board, says shippers are still dealing with long wait times for trains…
Yeaton says those backlogs are cutting into any profits grain producers were expecting…
Yeaton says the overall reaction is that service has not improved…
Much of last year’s crops still needs to be shipped, while the new crop will be coming in very soon.
