The South Dakota State Rail Board gave final approval to one of the largest rail reconstruction projects in state history.
Board Chairman Todd Yeaton of Kimball says the board, at their meeting this week, gave final approval to the project on the MRC line from Chamberlain west to Presho.
Yeaton says work is already underway on portions of the line.
Initial bids had come in well over the twenty eight million dollars set aside for the project, so the board had to find more money for the project.
Yeaton says they have hopes that the line could be rebuilt further west.
South Dakota Wheat Growers is already building a grain loading and fertilizer facility on the rail line in Kennebec.
