Rail Backlogs Not Expected This Year in SD

Rail Backlogs Not Expected This Year in SD

With harvest looming on the horizon, it doesn’t look like there will be the backlog of rail cars this year that caused long delays the past couple of years.
Todd Yeaton of Kimball, Chairman of the South Dakota State Rail Board says the slow down of oil production in North Dakota has a lot of trains being parked.

Yeaton says he is starting to see train reservations for the fall pick up.

There are several more grain train loading facilities either in development or the talking stage. Yeaton says those should not have a major impact on train car availability.

Yeaton says most large grain loaders in the state have emptied out their storage facilities in advance of this falls harvest.
