Coming out of their just concluded convention, R-CALF members are pushing Congress not to ratify the USMCA trade agreement unless mandatory country of origin labeling is included in it. R-CALF CEO Bill Bullard says reinstatement of that is needed so his group will support the NAFTA remake.

He says without Mandatory COOL in USMCA, U.S. cattle producers will lose out on competition from both Canada and Mexico.

Bullard says their members are putting pressure on House Democratic leadership not to vote for the trade agreement unless the labeling measure is in it.

Bullard says the problem with trade with Canada and Mexico presently is that the U.S. cattle industry is suffering from a trade deficit. He says the U.S. sends 2 billion pounds of cattle and beef to those countries but they in turn send 4 billion pounds of cattle and beef to the United States.
