One cattle group leader is seeing more attention and interest into increasing enforcement of the nation’s anti-trust laws from the Biden administration. R-CALF CEO Bill Bullard says the government is continuing its investigation into problems with the cattle markets and that’s encouraging.
He says with the new appointees from the Biden Administration there’s also hope the nation’s trade policy will see improvement that will in the long run cattle producers.
Bullard says the two primary issues R-CALF is most concerned about is getting more competitive and transparent cattle markets and getting mandatory country of origin labeling reinstated.
Bullard says U.S. cattle producers were hurt during the heart of the pandemic in 2020 when meatpackers imported thousands of Canadian cattle for immediate slaughter and at the same time U.S. producers couldn’t get a bid for up to 7 weeks.
