One of the three U.S. cattle groups asking the Biden Administration to require Brazil to stop shipping its beef to the US. is R-CALF. NCBA wants the imports from Brazil halted until they show they’re meeting the world health standard. R-CALF CEO Bill Bullard says Brazil has not been transparent in reporting quickly when they detect cases of BSE.

Bullard says it’s imperative that all beef from Brazil be banned from coming into the U.S. until they can prove it’s totally safe.

While NCBA says the OIE or world beef health standards are good enough, R-CALF says they are greatly lacking and need to be stricter. Bullard says at one time the U.S. had those type of rules but then turned to the WTO and OIE for protecting U.S. herds.

Bullard is hoping that having the U.S. cattle groups come together on this issue may help them cooperate on more issues impacting America’s cattle producers.
