The cattle organization R-Calf USA is objecting to a proposal by the U-S Department of Agriculture to implement electronic identification ear tags with cattle herds.  Eric Nelson is a cattle producer from Moville, Iowa and serves as the organization’s vice president.  Nelson says R-Calf USA is an organization that serves the independent cattle producers.  Nelson says electronic identification is nothing new, but he says R-Calf organization says the implementation will mean a heavy cost for smaller cattle producers.  Nelson says R-Calf USA has pushed back on the U-SDA’s proposal.  Nelson says there have been problems with the electronic identification system.  He says R-Calf prefers the traditional methods using brands, tattoos, and regular ear tags.
