The U.S. Department of Agriculture will be moving forward on three proposed rules to support the enforcement of the Packers and Stockyards Act. R-CALF CEO Bill Bullard is not only pleased with the decision but says it’s critical they go ahead with that because the current cattle market system is dysfunctional.

He says it’s also important the USDA with this Packers and Stockyard rulemaking make sure they properly address the captive supply issue.

Bullard says the regulators must make sure there is a competitive market for cattle producers.

In their rulemaking process the USDA will re propose a rule to clarify that parties do not need to demonstrate harm to competition to bring an action under Section 302 of the Packers and Stockyards Act.
