R CALF Pushing For Mandatory COOL In Final NAFTA Deal

R CALF Pushing For Mandatory COOL In Final NAFTA Deal

United States negotiators are still hoping to bring Canada into a three way North American Free Trade Agreement rewrite. The U.S. and Mexico came to a bi-lateral deal recently while talks between the U.S. and Canada failed to produce a deal following that. R-CALF CEO Bill Bullard is not only hoping they get a deal signed but that Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling is restored in the final pact.

He says there’s still time to get COOL included and his group is continuing to push for it with U.S. Trade Ambassador Robert Lighthizer.

Bullard says when COOL was repealed by the U.S. Congress in 2015, cattle prices fell and have not yet rebounded.

Bullard says now is the prime opportunity to get Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling for beef and pork restored rather than going through legislation.
