Democrats and Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee have come together to support the Trump Administration’s efforts to reform the World Trade Organization. The administration is working to take away the powers of the WTO’s appellate court. R-CALF CEO Bill Bullard is pleased with efforts to force those reforms. He says it’s a step in the right direction.

He says the WTO is overstepping its authority by placing so much power in the hands of their appellate court and the reforms sought by the Trump administration is welcome by his organization.

Some House Ways and Means Committee members back the dispute settlement process utilized by the WTO but Bullard says it’s not really needed in order for trade to flow properly.

Trump administration efforts to curtail the powers of the WTO culminated this month with the shuttering of appeals cases when the number of judges dropped to just one. A minimum of three are needed to hear cases.
