R CALF Opposing MOU To Raise Beef Check Off

Earlier this week several industry groups including the Federation of State Beef Councils, NCBA and Cattlewomen entered into a Memorandum of Understanding. The proposal is to raise the beef check off to two dollars a head and would be put to a vote of cattle producers. R CALF isn’t happy with the MOU and is working against it. CEO Bill Bullard says this came about because Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack failed to reform the beef check off and withdrew his plan for a second check off program.
Bullard says an increase in the beef check off isn’t needed, all that needs to be done is proper enforcement of the present program.
Bullard says the working group that came up with the Memorandum of Understanding don’t represent the majority of cattle producers in the United States.
Bullard says his group also wants the Ag Secretary to withdraw his support for the working group.
