R-CALF members held a live facebook meeting this week to talk about the market challenges faced by independent cattle producers. Following that, they came up with some recommendations they want the President and Congress to follow to give cattlemen a competitive price for their cattle. Gregory, South Dakota Cattle producer Brett Kenzy, regional director for R-CALF says getting transparency back in the markets is critical.

He says prior to the COVID 19 pandemic, cattle producers were suffering from depressed markets.

Kenzy says his group is continuing to weigh in with policy makers to get some movement to address their concerns.

Kenzy says the four major recommendations they came up from this week’s meeting is to make sure there’s full restoration of mandatory country of origin labeling, making packers purchase the majority of their cattle in the competitive marketplace., preventing packers from having captive supply and preventing processors from procuring cattle without having to negotiate a price.
