The Cattle Contract Library Market Act legislation introduced by South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson won’t fix the market competition problem currently facing the U.S. cattle industry. That’s according to R-CALF CEO Bill Bullard., who says the large amount of contracts have destroyed cattle producer’s markets
He says the Cattle Contract Library Market leaves out packer owned cattle and wasn’t even seen by cattle producer groups prior to being introduced.
Bullard says the only legislation that addresses the low cattle prices seen by producers and dysfunctional markets is Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley’s 50-14 bill.
Bullard was asked with all the legislation that’s been introduced to try and solve the problem will that make it difficult if not impossible for cattle groups to be unified in getting something passed. He says that unification will never happen.
Bullard says the crisis being faced by the U.S. cattle industry has now been ongoing for seven years.
