A former trade adviser to President Donald Trump, Dan DiMicco says the U.S. needs better trade deals. He says that may mean President Trump will need to walk away from the World Trade Organization, something he is prepared to do. R-CALF CEO Bill Bullard thinks that’s a strategy that makes sense.

He says recent trade actions taken by the Trump administration lead him to believe they would entertain leaving the WTO.

DiMicco said China has not lived up to the promises it made when it joined the WTO, but has not been held accountable either. Bullard says all trading partners need to be held accountable to any agreement they sign and the WTO has failed to enforce the treaty.

DiMicco served on Trump’s trade transition team.
