A group of United States Senators led by Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Debbie Stabenow of Michigan want a national security review of Brazil’s Marfrig Global Foods proposed purchase of National Beef Packing Company. R-CALF CEO Bill Bullard agrees with the Senators saying that review warranted.

In fact, he believes the U.S. government should put the brakes on the entire purchase.

Bullard says the USDA, the Treasury Department and Food and Drug Administration should all be involved in the review as requested by the Senators.

Bullard says regulators need to ensure the U.S. has the domestic ability to maintain strong food security and food safety and not be dependent on companies subsidized by foreign governments to do that work.
