Brazil has confirmed its second case of BSE following a public comment period in the U.S. calling for relaxing of import rules that would allow its beef into the United States. The South American nation already has problems with foot and mouth disease in several of its states. R CALF CEO Bill Bullard says this recent BSE case along with a Food Safety and Inspection Service Report is alarming.
Bullard says food safety is being thrown out the window by U.S. officials in favor of increasing trade.
Bullard says it’s also concerning the FSIS audit report came out following the comment period on the Brazil import rule.
